It all started with import of hearing aids in the Danish town Odense more than 115 years ago. As time went by import became own production and later on the company got into hearing care, diagnostics, hearing implants, audio solutions and headsets.

Today, Demant is one of the world’s leading and biggest hearing healthcare companies offering the broadest selection of treatment for people living with hearing loss. The story of our company – Demant – begins in 1904 with one man’s passion to improve the life of his wife, who suffered from hearing loss. At a time when hearing aids were in their infancy, Hans Demant bought one for his wife Camilla and they started building the foundation for professional hearing care. After some years, their son William took over and developed a prosperous company throughout the twentieth century – based on his parents’ story and the vision to give hearing back to the hearing impaired.

What is most important for you living with hearing loss?
To continue doing the things I enjoy as an Advocate, Doctoral Student, and most importantly as a Mother. It is important that I am able to hear with less worry and with ease in my everyday life.

How has your hearing device helped you?
The Ponto 4 has helped me become more confident with my hearing health. I am able to hear sounds from different directions and determine where the sound is coming from. With my previous devices, I had challenges determining where sound was coming from. 

How did you experience taking part in the movie shootings?
The movie shooting was amazing especially since it was in NYC! I am very grateful for the opportunity for my daughter and myself to take part in the shooting. The opportunity allowed me to share my experience with Ponto 4 genuinely and respectfully. I would definitely do it again if given the opportunity to share my story and ongoing satisfaction with Oticon Medical and their products.

What is most important for you living with hearing loss?
I feel left out when I cannot take part in a conversation. I am a person who would like to understand as much as possible but due to my hearing loss I have to choose when I want to spend more energy on trying to understand everything. I am very conscious on how I handle the emotions I get when there is something I cannot hear.

How has your hearing device helped you?
My hearing aids help me a lot. The best example I can give you is of a situation when I forget to wear them. Once, I forgot to wear them when I went to Ikea with my sister. I felt like walking around I a big bubble where the sound had to fight its way to get to my brain.

How did you experience taking part in the movie shootings?
I enjoyed it. I hope that others will experience the benefits of wearing hearing aids like I do.

What is most important for you living with hearing loss?
It is wonderful to be able to hear what people say so I can contribute instead of making completely irrelevant comments or repeatedly having to apologize because I don’t hear what people say. I have lived with a high frequency hearing loss since I fired a gun when I was 23. At first, I refused to wear hearing aids since they were not that great at the time. Today, the improvement my hearing aids give me is amazing and I don’t even notice that I’m wearing them except for the fact that I hear what people are saying!

How has your hearing device helped you?
Now, I can go to a noisy environment like a restaurant and enjoy the conversation instead of just being excluded. I do also enjoy being able to hear parts of music which I once was not able to hear.

How did you experience taking part in the movie shootings?
I had a hysterical day with the video crew. The crew did not do what I thought they would. They liked the fact I danced and liked yard work, so we played with that during the shootings. It was a great day with a lot of fun.

What is most important for you living with hearing loss?
The most important thing in my life is not to be restricted when I give lectures at a college or other places. Furthermore, I am very interested in making other people feel comfortable when I talk with them even though I have a hearing loss.

How has your hearing device helped you?
Hearing aids are parts of my body, so I don’t feel inconvenience in my everyday life. The hearing aids help me live with confidence and give me comfort in my relationships with other people.

How did you experience taking part in the movie shootings?
The shootings will remain a beautiful memory in my life forever. I enjoyed taking part in the shootings. Thank you for everything.
