Demant’s Diagnostics business area has completed Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) for two Interacoustics devices: the Equinox Evo Clinical Audiometer and the Touch Keyboard. The assessments provide a more structured approach to understanding and documenting the environmental footprint of the products across their full life cycles.

Based on the environmental impacts assessed, the Diagnostics business area will use its current understanding of the climate impact of its equipment to guide efforts to reduce the climate footprint of future devices. From a Group perspective, this demonstrates how robust, data‑driven insights underpin Demant’s climate change mitigation efforts.

The assessments have been externally validated by Rambøll and supported by iPoint GmbH.

Understanding Life Cycle Assessments
The Life Cycle Assessments analyse the environmental impact of each product across its full life cycle, in line with internationally recognised standards, from raw material extraction and manufacturing through use and end-of-life. Within the Diagnostics business area, the LCAs have been used to identify climate change hotspots and to understand which components contribute most significantly to greenhouse gas emissions.

Based on an assumed seven-year product lifetime, the assessments show that the Equinox Evo has a carbon footprint of 224 kg CO₂e, while the Touch Keyboard has a footprint of 130 kg CO₂e. These figures help translate complex environmental data into measurable insights that can inform future design choices and product development priorities.

Looking ahead
The completion of the LCAs marks an important step in the ongoing sustainability efforts within Demant’s Diagnostics business area. The results will allow for the integration of environmental considerations more systematically into product development and decision-making.

To broaden insights across the Diagnostics portfolio, work is currently under way to develop additional life cycle assessments for a wider range of products.
